Subject: Outwood Mill

Hello Claire,

Firstly, a massive thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to come visit us last week. It was lovely to meet you and also great to see the post on Facebook showing the importance of restoring the Windmill in the many comments.

Just to confirm where we are at with everything – we have emailed another millwright to obtain a further quote. We have also been in touch with a sign company to obtain an interpretive sign outlining the history of Outwood Windmill – as mentioned on Friday – ones that are similar to those around Kenley Aerodrome.

We had begun the process of seeking funding from the National Lottery, but as part of the process, they seek evidence to add weight to the request. This is where we are hoping you may be able to assist us. The evidence is to highlight the importance of Outwood Mill, to have it restored to its natural beauty and if possible working, outlining the effect this would have on the local and also wider community. The funding will help us fast track the restoration initiative, where once complete we hope to reopen Outwood Mill to the public, providing educational opportunities through open days, school visits, and potentially other community events working collaboratively with local businesses.

Having spoken with many people in the village and visitors passing by to the Windmill, they often discuss visiting when they were younger either with their parents or on School visits, so it would be great for the Windmill to be able to reconvene such activities.

Outwood Mill is recognised by Historic England as being within the top 2.5% of buildings of national importance. A letter detailing this from a visit from Historic England will be provided as part of the application, to further support our application.

So therefore we are hoping that you may be able to provide a letter in support to act as the additional evidence outlining the importance of the restoration and what it will bring to the community.

Paul kindly shared some links to other potential grants so we will explore those avenues as well.

 Many thanks and regards,

Regards,

Alex Rodrigues
